01 -  Preheat oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. 
 02 -  Unroll the puff pastry on a lightly floured work surface. 
 03 -  Brush entire surface of the pastry with melted butter. 
 04 -  Combine granulated sugar and ground cinnamon in a small bowl; sprinkle evenly over buttered pastry. 
 05 -  With a sharp knife or pizza cutter, slice the pastry into 12 equal strips, each about 3/4 inch wide. 
 06 -  Thread each strip onto a wooden skewer, zig-zagging to create a tree shape, starting wide and tapering to the top. 
 07 -  Place shaped trees onto prepared baking sheet, evenly spaced. Brush each with beaten egg for a golden finish. 
 08 -  Bake for 12–15 minutes, until pastry is puffed and golden brown. 
 09 -  Let trees cool for 5 minutes. Optional: dust with powdered sugar and top with star-shaped decoration.
